Flowers By Irene Awarded “Display Window of the Month”

On Thursday, February 16th members of the Main Street Design Committee awarded Lisa Jackson, owner of Flowers By Irene located at 500 N. Second Avenue with the Main Street “Display Window of the Month” award for February.  In efforts to award and acknowledge the downtown businesses that put the time and energy into designing a well-thought out window display, the Main Street Design Committee has recently launched a new program entitled “Window Display of the Month.”  Each month the Main Street Design Committee will take a look at the various storefronts and window displays throughout the Main Street District, and choose the one that best meets the criteria for a well-designed window display.  The chosen business will then be notified and awarded with a...

Historic Photos Become Reminiscent of Old Dodge City

In attempts to showcase the history of the downtown area, Main Street Dodge City, in partnership with the Dodge City Convention & Visitors Bureau, has undertaken a project to wrap the windows around the old Robinson Furniture building with historic photos. The first two phases of the project have included pictures of an early-day farm show taking place downtown in the 1930’s, as well as portraits of well-known people known for contributing to Dodge City’s history throughout the years. 2nd Avenue Art Guild

Glenn Truitt, owner of the 2nd Avenue Art Guild building located at 608 North Second Avenue, has recently made improvements to his property by removing the old aluminum awning and replacing it with a new, slanted canvas awning. This project was completed with the help of the new Facade Improvement Grant Program, which grants property owners with up to 50% of the costs when making exterior improvements to their buildings that comply with the local Downtown Design Guidelines...

Ensueno Hair & Boutique

Gema Lima, owner of Ensueno Hair & Boutique located at 612 North Second Avenue, is in the process of making several improvements to her historic building downtown. As seen in the picture, part of the project includes removing the ceramic tile from the lower half of the building and replacing it with historically appropriate brick and stone. In addition, Lima plans to replace all the display windows and frames and will be utilizing the Facade Improvement Grant Program to help pay for the improvements...
